Media Release:

Forcible Deportation of Iraqi asylum seekers to Kurdish Regional Government on a charter
flight to take place between 72 hours and 20 days from the date of notice

Once again the UK Home office has started to arrest Iraqi asylum seekers, a large number of Iraqi asylum seekers are currently being held in detention centres across the UK.  IFIR has been informed by some of the asylum seekers that they have been given notices stating

 

 

“You are to be removed to the KRG no sooner than 72 Hours from the date of this notice and no longer than 20 days from the date of this notice”.

 

One of the asylum seekers wife is eight months pregnant, for another this is the second time they have been forcibly deported from the UK. 

 

We ask all human, labour and refugee rights and anti-war organisations to support the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees and the Coalition to Stop Deportations to Iraq by writing protest letters to the Home office, Royal Jordanian Airline and the Kurdish Regional Government making the following demands:

 

Please call on the UK Home Office to:

1.    Abolish the policy of deporting asylum seekers; allow all Kurdish asylum seekers to have legal representatives to defend their rights.

2.    Stop the inhuman policy of making Kurdish Iraqi asylum seekers destitute.

3.     Release all Iraqis currently held in detention centers.

 

Please Call on Royal Jordanian Airline:

 

1.  Not to accept any more bookings from the UK Home Office Office for the purpose of deporting Iraqi Kurdish asylum Seekers

      2. Cancel all  previous bookings from the Home Office for the purpose of deporting Iraqi Kurdish asylum   Seekers immediately;

     3. If Royal Jordanian continue to deport Iraqi Kurdish asylum seekers say you will not use Royal Jordanian Airlines.

Please call on the Kurdish regional Government office in UK to:

 

  1. Suspend immediately all agreements with any European countries to accept forcibly returned Kurdish asylum seekers
  2. Do not accept any forcibly returned asylum seekers or refugees from any country
  1. Stop Using Arbil airport to accept forcibly returned European asylum seekers.
  2. Ask the UN to put pressure on international community to recognize the right of asylum for Kurdish asylum seekers.
