‘We're against forcing people to be deported.’

Ali al-Dabbagh, Iraqi government spokesman

After the Iraqi Government refused to accept some of the people on the UK Government’s mass deportation in October, its spokesman told Al-Jazeera that they would not accept forcible deportations.

And yet in the past week the same government accepted 80 people, deported by force to Baghdad from Norway and Sweden, while in the UK more than fifty people were arrested and told they will be forcibly deported to northern Iraq sometime next week.

In the same week more than 120 people were killed by car bombs in Baghdad, the latest episode in a tragic series of violence and bloodshed.  Yet the Iraqi Government refuses to take a moral stand against the European countries’ inhumane policies, forcibly deporting people who left to escape that violence and bloodshed, just as it cannot stand up to their oil companies, who have today bid for three of its oilfields (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSGEE5BA07E20091211?type=marketsNews).

The fifty people arrested and detained in Colnbrook, Brook House, Tinsley House and Doncaster immigration prisons have written protest letters to the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government demanding all airports in Iraq be closed to those European countries trying to forcibly deport people.

Join members of the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees from around the country to demand the Iraqi Government respect Iraqi refugees’ right to live where they choose, and refuse to accept anymore forcible deportations.
